As a wedding planner, I found out directly myself how stressful planning a wedding can be. When I went to plan my own wedding, I thought it would be no problem but found even though I am in the business there are still some guidelines that need to be followed to create a successful wedding or special event. Thus, what I thought I would do is share some wedding planning tips with you to help relieve some of the party planning strains you may have on your special day. These helpful hints work for either a wedding or any other special event you may host.

Here are the tips you should keep in mind:

1. If you take photos or have a professional photographer, prior to the event, create a shot list of important memories you want from that day. Remember it’s a live event and you only get one take.

2. Create a timeline and be as exact as possible to ensure you have all aspects of your event in place prior to the start time.

3. Confirm your vendors 48 hours in advance. Don’t try and call them that day or the day before when you are still pulling together some last minute details.

4. Don’t be a hero and try and expect to do everything that day. It’s okay to ask your husband to be or a friend to help out if they can.

5. Have a second pair of shows handy near where you are sitting. You will be amazed how your dream wedding shoes can all of a sudden become uncomfortable.

6. If you are wearing your hair up, make sure the hairdo is not too tight or you will have such a headache!

7. EAT! Don’t forget to eat, enjoy your wedding meal especially the cake.

8. Go with the flow, something always seems to happen, just don’t worry and have fun!

9. Be in the moment. Focus on what is going on in the now and don’t worry about the ater or what could have been.

1.) Staying organized is the best thing you can do to make planning your wedding go smoothly. Purchase a nice three-ring binder (and a three hole punch) with dividers to keep all of your contracts and paperwork organized and easily accessible.

When you open your gifts, pull out each guest’s card and write a description of the gift you received from them. This makes writing thank-you notes a snap!***

5.) The safest way to pay for wedding purchases is by credit card. This is one of the most important wedding planning tips. This way, if there is anything wrong with the service or product, or if there is a breach of contract, it is easier to track the purchase and get a refund if necessary.

6.) When shopping for a photographer, be sure to view a complete album of one entire wedding. Look for consistency in the shots. Seeing only “the best” pictures from many weddings does not show consistency in work. Ask yourself if the shots adequately tell the “story” of the wedding. Also, ask lots of questions, and really get to know your photographer. Remember, this person will be with you from the beginning of your big day to the end, so you want to be very comfortable with them.

8.) When you order your wedding flowers, be sure to order a separate “toss bouquet.”
